Section 1: Why Pardons Matter

A past criminal charge shouldn’t define your future. With a pardon, you may be able to:

  • ✔ Remove eligible charges from your public record
  • ✔ Improve job, housing, and licensing opportunities
  • ✔ Protect your reputation and peace of mind
  • ✔ Restore your gun rights (this may be complicated depending on your situation, be sure to contact us if this is your goal in obtaining a pardon)

Peter Lindstrom, Esq. will guide you through every step so you don’t have to navigate the system alone.

Section 2: Are You Eligible for a Pardon?

Eligibility depends on several factors, including:

  • A requirement that you were convicted of a felony in Wisconsin.
  • Misdemeanor cases are not eligible (unless it’s a misdemeanor charge that is directly tied to a felony a conviction).
  • How long ago you completed probation, extended supervision or were otherwise discharged from your sentence.
  • Whether you had probation violations (this doesn’t necessarily disqualify you, but it may impact eligibility).
  • Whether you have any pending charges or were convicted of crimes after the felony case you want pardoned.
  • That you are not currently required to register as a sex offender.

Section 5: FAQ

How long does the pardon process take?
The pardon system is experiencing a backlog of case. The recent estimates have been in the 12 – 16 month range. It is not an overnight process. But once the process gets started, we’re in line, and it’s only a matter of time before we get our able to present our arguments at the Pardon Advisory Board Hearing.

Can all charges be pardoned?
No. Wisconsin limits pardons to felony cases. We can verify in reviewing your record what you are eligible for and not. And even if you are not eligible for pardon, we can explore if there are any other options to seek relief by other means.

Do I need to appear in person at the hearings?
No. Currently, the Pardon Advisory Board are conducting hearing through Zoom. If you live far away or travel is difficult for you, there is no need to travel long distances for the hearing. However, you will need to have access to a laptop or phone to appear via Zoom for the hearing.
